44th Annual John Druecker Memorial Rhododendron Show at Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens (Fort Bragg, CA)

The Rhododendron Show is free to attend and open to the public from 9:00am to 6:00pm on Saturday and Sunday. In addition to hundreds of individual flower entries, there will be plants, bonsai, photos, floral arrangements, hourly plant raffles, and educational displays. A large selection of rhododendrons and other plants will be available for purchase in the big tent and at the Gardens’ Nursery. Local growers and Noyo Chapter ARS members will be on hand to answer questions and discuss the best plants for your garden.

Children’s Day at the Japanese Friendship Garden (San Diego, CA)

All of the activities, vendors and performances will take place inside the garden’s gates. We invite guests to make special koinobori, play games, and eat kashiwamochi. Performances will run throughout the day. Guests can also enjoy wearing yukatas, courtesy of the SD Kimono Club. Come join us for an exciting event!

Outdoor Walk: Morning Bird Walk at the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden (Santa Barbara, CA)

Join birding expert Rebecca Coulter as she leads a group walk through the Garden for a morning of watching and listening for a variety of birds. During our walk we may see signs of the breeding season: nesting resident species like Dark-eyed Junco, Black Phoebe, Song Sparrow, and Spotted Towhee. We’ll also be on the lookout for some of our migrant species: Western Tanager, Black-headed Grosbeak, Hooded Oriole, and Yellow Warbler – some just passing through, some stopping to breed in our region.

Guided Walk: Full Moon Forest Bathing at the Los Angeles Mycological Society (Arcadia, CA)

Inspired by the Japanese practice of shinrin yoku, Forest Bathing has been scientifically proven to boost immune strength, reduce stress, and improve cognitive functioning. On your walk, a certified guide will offer a series of guided invitations to assist you in finding your own authentic way of interacting with the land at the Los Angeles Arboretum. There’s no right or wrong way to do it; just come and be yourself. It’s all welcome in the forest.

Show at the Earl Warren Showgrounds: Orchids – The Adventure Returns (Santa Barbara, CA)

10th Annual Santa Barbara Botanic Garden Conservation Symposium (Santa Barbara, CA)

At their annual Conservation Symposium, they bring conservation heroes and engaging experts together with students, land managers, conservation practitioners, and educators. They examine issues from various angles and then follow with a panel discussion to illuminate how everyone can all contribute and what we can do even better moving forward. Their participants leave with the knowledge and energy to further the mission of conserving native plants and habitats for the health and well-being of people and our planet.
