World of Orchids Showcase By San Diego Botanic Gardens (San Diego, CA)

San Diego Botanic Garden hosts its annual spring orchids showcase, World of Orchids, in our state-of-the-art, 8,000 square foot, glass-enclosed facility – the Dickinson Family Education Conservatory. In addition to the beautiful and immersive displays, the show features vendors on select weekends selling plants, potting materials, and other merchandise.

Show at the Earl Warren Showgrounds: Orchids – The Adventure Returns (Santa Barbara, CA)

The Santa Barbara International Orchid Show is one of the oldest, largest and most prestigious orchid shows in the United States, reflecting the rich agricultural and orchid-growing history of Santa Barbara County. Visitors from all over the world return each March to delight in our grand orchid displays installed by local, national and international artisans and orchid enthusiasts. Exhibits of orchid art, photography and floral arrangements, in addition to a comprehensive workshop and demonstration schedule, provide visitors with a rich and unique orchid experience. 10th Annual Santa Barbara Botanic Garden Conservation Symposium (Santa Barbara, CA)

At their annual Conservation Symposium, they bring conservation heroes and engaging experts together with students, land managers, conservation practitioners, and educators. They examine issues from various angles and then follow with a panel discussion to illuminate how everyone can all contribute and what we can do even better moving forward. Their participants leave with the knowledge and energy to further the mission of conserving native plants and habitats for the health and well-being of people and our planet.

Workshop at Propagation House: Dahlia Division & Care (Fort Bragg, CA)

Join Propagation House at Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens Nursery Manager, Lyn Anton, and learn to divide dahlias before they begin to sprout. Lyn will discuss dahlia anatomy and the different types of dahlias before diving into the art of dahlia division. You’ll get your hands dirty dividing tubers and take one home to practice all you have learned. The class will wrap up with tips on storing tubers, tricks for overwintering, and a discussion on how to grow dahlias.

Zoom Class: Choosing Drought Resilient Plants for your Garden (Berkeley, CA)

Learn how to choose the best drought-tolerant plants for your home garden at this online talk. Kristin Jakob will share her expertise from over 50 years of gardening, primarily in Marin County, with a focus on California natives, alongside other ornamental plants from around the globe. She is a plant consultant for residential clients and as a volunteer for public gardens. Kristin is also an accomplished botanical artist featured in our Plants Illustrated exhibition.

Theodore Payne Foundation Native Plant Garden Tour

The Theodore Payne Foundation, Southern California’s leading native plant nursery and educational center, will hold its 19th Annual Native Plant Garden Tour on April 23 and 24. The event, titled Metropolis to Metamorphosis, will be in-person after a two-year hiatus, with brand new narrative content and special events. The Garden Tour opens 34 private and public native plant gardens across L.A. for tour goers to experience a curated selection of the most beautiful and visionary landscapes in the region.

Tickets are available at nativeplantgardentour.org along with detailed information about the tour, and associated offerings. Ticket price of $40 includes admission to all gardens on Saturday and Sunday, a beautifully designed guide booklet, and entry to the after party at Los Angeles State Historic Park.

Orchid Magic International Spring Show and Sale

San Diego County Orchid Society (SDCOS) will host its large annual international spring show and sale – this year themed Orchid Magic – from Friday, March 18 through Sunday, March 20. “Visitors to this show will discover world class displays, hundreds of magnificent plants, and top orchid vendors. They can hear from expert speakers about growing orchids and orchid conservation,” said SDCOS President Debby Halliday. “We invite everyone to come and see, learn, and shop at this grand celebration of beauty and color.”
