Join fellow AHS members in your region for a behind-the-scenes tour of Wakefield Arboretum, a participating garden in the AHS Reciprocal Garden Network. Led by the garden’s horticulture staff, this tour will show highlights the season’s most stunning collections.

Mary May Binney Wakefield Arboretum is one of the Boston area’s best kept secrets, nestled next door to the Blue Hills Reservation. The Arboretum is home to 23 acres of formal gardens, woodlands, wetlands and beautiful historical buildings, including the original homes of the families who lived on the property from the early 18th century. With over 300 woody specimens, executive director Debbie Merriam will highlight the phenomenal fall colors, including Witch Alder (Fothergilla gardenii), Oak Leaf Hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia), Sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua), and the collection of Japanese maples (Acer sp.). There are also many plants with notable fruits that are most enjoyable in the fall, including Winterberry (Ilex verticillata) and Beautyberry (Callicarpa americana). Between the showy fall foliage, you will also discover pocket plantings of goldenrods and asters. Around each corner there will be something new to discover within the garden!

This program is only open to AHS members.
