Daffodil Day at Reeves-Reed Arboretum (Summit, NJ)

Daffodil Day is a decades-old tradition in Summit when visitors to the Arboretum have an opportunity to enjoy one of the largest daffodil collections in New Jersey – over 50,000 bulbs in bloom in the Arboretum’s glacially carved Daffodil Bowl! And this year is extra special as we celebrate our 50th Anniversary as a public arboretum.

Spring Ephemerals & Pollinators Soup n’ Walk (Ridgely, MD)

Look again! The blooms of ephemeral plants, trees, and shrubs are here and gone in the blink of an eye. Look for pink, white, and yellow blooms and listen for early pollinators. Plants of interest include pink spring beauty, may apple, dogwood, golden groundsel, spicebush, sassafras, and white beech. Following a guided walk with a docent naturalist, enjoy a delicious and nutritious lunch along with a brief lesson about nutrition. Copies of recipes are provided. All gift shop purchases are 20% off on Soup ‘n Walk days.

Laurelwood Arboretum Annual Plant Sale (Wayne, NJ)

Our annual on-site plant sale will be held on Mother’s Day Weekend – Saturday, May 11 and Sunday, May 12, 2024. Our pre-sale this year includes annual flats, grasses, native plants, perennials and shrubs. Plants ordered in advance will be scheduled for pickup the week before the on-site plant sale.

Easy Rose Care Class at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill (Boylston, MA)

Learn about uncovering winter protected roses, pruning various types, planting, fertilizing and choosing hardy roses. Photos from Teresa’s locally revered Zone 5 garden in Methuen are incorporated into the power point presentation. Handouts are included, and all participants will receive a copy of either Teresa’s book, A Year in My Rose Garden, How Roses Touch our Lives, or A Year in My Rose Garden Journal.

Fruit Tree Grafting Class (Augusta, ME)

Viles Arboretum is partnering with Fedco Trees for a Fruit Tree Grafting workshop!
Learn to propagate and reproduce favorite apple varieties with instructor Jennifer Ries of Fedco Trees. She will explain how & why to graft and demonstrate the techniques for Whip & Tongue grafting. This is a hands-on class — participants will graft stock to take home and care of seedlings will be discussed.
