How to Design, Plant, and Care for a Low-Maintenance, High-Impact, Pollinator-Friendly Flower Garden (Stockbridge, MA)

Led by Kerry Ann Mendez, this in-depth course covers key steps for designing and planting ever-blooming, sustainable flower gardens, including light and soil assessment, bed preparation, and plant placement on Saturday, April 6, from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Participants will learn about top-performing perennials, flowering shrubs and annuals (many of which are natives or nativars), as well as unusual, proven techniques for producing marathon-blooming compositions.

Seed Starting Workshop with John Fromer (Camden, ME)

Have you ever wanted to start plants from seed but weren’t sure how to go about it? Perhaps you already start from seed but have questions. This workshop starts with a slide show about seed starting and then we move to the greenhouse for a hands-on experience. You will learn techniques for planting different kinds of seeds, equipment you need, seedling care and transplanting seedlings. Each participant will take home 2 flats of seedlings to grow on.

Sonoma Botanical Garden’s Ribbit Exhibit (Glen Ellen, CA)

Sonoma Botanical Garden leaps into spring with Ribbit Exhibit, a whimsical, family-friendly presentation of more than 20 larger-than-life frog characters placed in vignettes throughout the Garden. Each with their own name and story, the enchanting human-sized sculptures by artist Andy Cobb include Zenny meditating on a leaf on the Garden’s Pond, Bentley and his tortoise friend Tortuga ambling along the California Oaks Trail, dapper Floyd and his elegant partner Grace cutting the rug amongst the flowers, and many others.
