Looking to create a garden that reflects your personality, lifestyle and values that incorporates herbs, natives, and more? Whether you’re starting fresh (with lots of goals) or reimagining an existing property (with some distinct challenges), designing a garden is a process, starting with a look inward at your wants and needs…and outward at your site and surroundings. Using inspiring photos from her new garden in Delaware and established garden in Maryland as examples, Holly will share design considerations, practical ideas, and how-to’s that enable you to create a successful organic garden that reflects your personal style.

Holly H. Shimizu is a nationally recognized horticulturist with a rich background in gardens, plants, and plant conservation.  After working in numerous gardens in England, Germany, Holland, and Belgium, Holly was the first Curator of the National Herb Garden at the US National Arboretum and subsequently served fourteen years as the Executive Director of the US Botanic Garden. Shimizu is an AHS board member and recipient of an AHS Professional Award for Outstanding Public Garden Director.
