This hands-on workshop will introduce one of the more contemporary schools of Ikebana, called Sogetsu. Sogetsu is always new and freely reflects the individuality of the person who arranges the work. The sensei, or teacher, will explain the history and fundamentals of Sogetsu Ikebana and demonstrate a basic design that the participants will create using materials provided. The demonstration will be followed by a Q & A and all designs created in the workshop will be critiqued. Participants will take their supplies and flowers home.

This program is offered in partnership with Ikebana International Chapter 1. Founded in 1956, Ikebana International is a non-profit cultural organization dedicated to promoting and appreciating the art of ikebana. The Washington, D.C. Chapter No.1 is proud to be the first chapter of Ikebana International outside of Tokyo, Japan. Chapter board member Linda Ely will instruct this workshop. If you are a member of Ikebana International Chapter 1, please email programs@ahsgardening.org for a special partner registration link.
