La Luz de Las Noches at Santa Fe Botanical Garden

Come celebrate a new holiday tradition at the Garden! Celebrate the holidays this December at the Santa Fe Botanical Garden’s new winter holiday event: La Luz de las Noches – “The Light of the Nights.” Come stroll the farolito lined Garden pathways while sipping on a warm seasonal drink. Twinkling holiday lights will lead you to at least two live performers each night and sweet and savory holiday treats are available throughout the Garden.

Queens Botanical Garden School Holiday Program: MLK Day

During this 9am-3pm drop-off program, young gardeners will learn about food justice movements in Black American history, start seeds in our greenhouse for the spring, and explore our interconnected ecosystems. Children will enjoy the Children’s Garden, where they spend time gardening, playing, observing, and learning in a nurturing environment.

University of Washington Botanic Gardens Master Pruner Series (Virtual)

UW Botanic Gardens is hosting a Master Pruner Series designed for those who work and are interested in landscape maintenance. Each virtual lecture provides information on tools and techniques for quality pruning with better long-term results. The series runs every Thursday for 6 weeks, February 1st-March 7th 2024, with 2 lectures on each Thursday at 9:30am-11:30am and 12:30pm-2:30pm. Participants can sign up for individual classes or the entire 12 class series. Professional credits APLD-2, CPH-2, ecoPRO-2, ISA-2, NALP/WALP-2 are available for each 2-hour lecture.

The City Gardens Club of New York City 17th Annual Forum (New York, NY)

On Thursday, January 18th, our 17th annual forum “We Are What We Eat – Embracing a Healthy Food System” will be held at The Brick Presbyterian Church in the City of New York and online. Our panelists will discuss how our current food system evolved, organic farming, the challenges of “big ag”, and the marketing of fresh produce.

Connecticut Horticultural Society – “Gardening Matters: Our Future is Growing” (VIRTUAL)

The Connecticut Horticultural Society is thrilled to announce that its 2024 Virtual Symposium on Saturday, February 3, “Gardening Matters: Our Future is Growing,” will feature talks by garden experts Fergus Garrett, John Forti, Jared Rosenbaum and Gary Lewis. Native Plant Talk – Your Story in Seed (Framingham, MA)

Artist-miniaturist Sergey Jivetin returns to Garden in the Woods to hand-engrave seeds with illustrations based on narratives about plants. By pre-registration only, a limited number of time slots are available for registrants to bring in a seed and have it engraved with their personal story. Jivetin’s work is in the permanent collections of many public institutions including the Smithsonian, Metropolitan Museum of Art and Dallas Museum of Art.

Native Plant Trust – The Seed Keeper (Framingham, MA)

Join author Diane Wilson (Dakota) at the Cambridge Foundry in Kendall Square, Cambridge, for a conversation about her award-winning book, The Seed Keeper. A haunting novel spanning several generations, The Seed Keeper follows a Dakota family’s struggle to preserve their way of life, and their sacrifices to protect what matters most. As Americans of all backgrounds awaken to the importance of storing seeds for future generations, The Seed Keeper unfolds a timeless story of our relationship to seeds. The talk will be followed by a book-signing.
