Bok Tower Gardens – Fossils of Florida (Lake Wales, FL)

Join Derek Demeter, director of the Emil Buehler Planetarium at Seminole State College in Florida, for a trip through time, exploring the various fossils found in Florida. Outside of his role as an astronomer, Derek is a SCUBA diver and fossil hunter and loves to share this passion by sharing his wonderful discoveries with communities around the country. We will explore the geological timelines and the fossils found within them, including many examples for guests to see and touch.

Botanical Garden of the Ozarks – Botanical Sketching Workshop (Fayetteville, AK)

Join Caite and Karla as they head into the Gardens with their sketchbooks! The two will be leading casual drawing sessions intended to deepen awareness and appreciation for plants and to gain the many benefits of the drawing process. Beginners can start a new lifelong skill, while advanced artists can build on prior experiences. All will benefit from the community of shared interests as we take to the Gardens for some dedicated time with the plants. Sketchbooks and drawing tools will be provided, or you may bring your own. Sessions can be completely self-guided, or Caite and Karla will provide guidance, especially for those new to drawing. No prior skills needed!

Missouri Botanical Garden – Speaker Series: Gardening Can Be Murder (St. Louis, MO)

With their deadly plants, razor-sharp shears, shady corners, and ready-made burial sites, gardens make an ideal scene for a murder mystery. Join Marta McDowell, a writer, gardener, and avid mystery reader, in exploring the many ways in which writers—from Edgar Allen Poe and Wilkie Collins to Agatha Christie and some of today’s top crime fiction authors—have found inspiration in the sinister side of gardening. McDowell’s new book, Gardening Can Be Murder, debuts on September 5 and will be available from the Garden Gate Shop. Book signing to follow.

Shangri La Gardens – Autumn Fair (Orange, TX)

Autumn Fair is a family event to celebrate the season and all that is associated with it. The day begins at 10:30 a.m. with multiple family-friendly opportunities for hands-on activities. Guests will have the opportunity to participate in a scavenger hunt, tackle our Shangri La Gardens obstacle course, decorate pumpkins, enjoy a hayride, investigate some of the critters that call Shangri La Gardens home, cruise Adam’s Bayou on a pontoon boat ride and much more!
