In-Person Workshop: Garden Photography Basics with Murphy’s Camera at Yellow Dell Botanical Gardens (Crestwood, KY)

Murphy’s Camera is back for another Garden Photography Basics workshop. Based upon the success of the fall session, Ayrica Bishop, Murphy’s Camera Education Coordinator, returns to focus on Yew Dell’s gorgeous spring flowers. We’ll start with an overview of camera basics such as framing and lighting, then take a walking tour of the gardens with docents spotlighting Yew Dell’s history and highlighting their favorite garden spots. You’ll see the gardens in a whole new way while capturing amazing images!

Plant Sell at Yellow Dell Botanical Gardens (Crestwood, KY)

Join Yellow Dell Botanical Gardens for a Spring plant sell. Enjoy these features: Awesome collection of newly-available plants to get your spring garden growing. Martha Lee’s Kitchen will have a festive spring menu. Look for something new from the Garden Gift Shop. We’ll have Horticulture Staff and Volunteers on site to answer your gardening questions. In-Person Workshop: The Botany of Derby at Yellow Dell Botanical Gardens (Crestwood, KY)

It may be “The Run for the Roses,” but there are multiple plants involved in the Kentucky Derby. In this relaxed workshop, Alissandra Ayala, a biology graduate student from University of Louisville, will fill us in about hay, pecans, mulberry leaves, and other plants (including roses), and how these botanical treasures contribute to the most exciting two minutes in sports. Hands down, you’ll never look at Derby quite the same way! We’ll include a Kentucky Colonel mint plant with your ticket, so you can start growing your Derby Garden!

In-Person Workshop: Spring Floral Watercolor Painting at Yellow Dell Botanical Gardens (Crestwood, KY)

Let your creativity bloom in this Spring Floral Watercolor Painting class with Hanna Barnhart, the artist behind Owen & Mae at Mellwood Art Center! In this class, you will learn the basics of using watercolor, plus Hanna’s techniques to create a unique floral painting to take home with you! Materials will be supplied by the instructor, and no prior knowledge or experience is needed. This class is perfect for beginners and for anyone who wants to learn new skills.

In-Person Workshop: Mushroom Hike at Yew Dell Botanical Gardens (Crestwood, KY)

Our friends from the Bluegrass Mycological Society will lead a walk of our gardens and trails to identify what we have growing, while giving an overview of the fungal kingdom and the field of mycology. You’ll learn their important role in our forests and fields and how we can use them for food, medicine, and improving the world around us.

Executive Director, Paul Cappiello, and Heimerdinger Cutlery President, Carl Heimerdinger, will work their magic on spades, hoes, pruners, and other hand tools essential to a new gardening season. Bring a few of your ailing tools with you, and Paul and Carl will try to rescue as many as time allows.

The Gardener Master Class at Hollister House Garden (Washington, CT)

A five part course beginning April 20th, 2023 through May 18th, 2023. This five-session master class developed for all skill levels will cover all aspects of gardening, from concept and planning to installing and maintenance. Annual Art Show & Sale at the The Ruth Bancroft Garden (Walnut Creek, CA)

Sculpture in the Garden is the annual art exhibit and sale that marries stunning sculptural art with the natural botanical beauty of the Garden. The exhibit is open to the public during Garden hours and is free with Garden admission.
