Class: Creating Habitat for Butterflies at Tanger Arboretum (Lancaster, PA)

Attendees will learn about the habitat elements necessary for the survival of butterflies from egg to adult. Plus, learn about the critical ecological role native plants and butterflies play in food webs. Presenter Debra Carman will discuss multiple species of butterflies commonly found in Pennsylvania as well as display live caterpillars during the Q&A session.

Class: The Basics of Bonsai at Tanger Arboretum (Lancaster, PA)

Participants will learn a brief history of bonsai, the aesthetics and horticulture of bonsai, and tips on how to care for developing bonsai. Participants will also learn tips on the “dos” and “don’ts” of bonsai with attention to aesthetics and general health. Presenter Dr. Ryan Wagner will demonstrate some techniques for those picking up their new bonsais at garden centers to shape these readily available plants.

Class: Container Gardening at Tanger Arboretum (Lancaster, PA)

Presenter Christine Abel will share tips for container gardening and how to create stunning four-season containers and patio pots. She will also show attendees how to create a patio pot (or container) for summer that will last all season until the frost comes, and display and discuss new or little-known plants that are now on the market for buyers.

Class: Growing Community Through Urban Agriculture at Tanger Arboretum (Lancaster, PA)

Presenter Madison Walter, urban agriculture coordinator for the New Castle Conservation District, will review what urban agriculture is, its different forms, and the surprising impacts it can make within a community. Participants will learn about how urban agriculture projects transform spaces and empower individuals to reclaim ownership of their environment. Annual Native Plant Garden Tour at the Theodore Payne Foundation (Los Angeles, CA)

The Theodore Payne Foundation, Southern California’s leading native plant nursery and educational center, will hold its 20th Annual Native Plant Garden Tour on April 15 and 16. Lecture: Let’s Talk About Water-wise Landscaping at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens (Cheyenne, WY)

Come celebrate Earth Day at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens in the Gathering Rooms. Enjoy the spring tulip show, food truck and our class series. Horticulturist Isaiah Smith will be presenting the steps you can take to turn your yard into a water wise landscape while increasing the aesthetic appeal.
