Spring Bloom at Airlie Gardens (Wilmington, NC)

When warmer temperatures approach, Airlie Gardens’ springtime blooms are a sight to see! Blooming typically between mid-March through mid-April, we have over 75,000 azaleas on property, and have planted over 60,000, spring bulbs. Peak bloom is weather dependent, so bloom times may vary.

Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Philadelphia Flower Show (Philadelphia, PA)

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Philadelphia Flower Show is both the nation’s largest and the world’s longest-running horticultural event, featuring stunning displays by premier floral and landscape designers from around the globe. Started in 1829 by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, the Show introduces diverse and sustainable plant varieties and garden and design concepts. In addition to acres of garden displays, the Flower Show hosts esteemed competitions in horticulture and artistic floral arranging, gardening presentations and demonstrations, and special events.

Maryland Home & Garden Show at the Timonium Fairgrounds (Lutherville-Timonium, MD)

Each Spring the gardens share a creative theme used to inspire their landscape designers. Their upcoming Spring theme will be Celebrating 40 Years! Enjoy the creativity of each landscaper as they create gardens that interpret the theme while also showcasing the work they can do at your home. Their professionally landscaped gardens are always a popular feature at the show and updating our homes on the outside is now more important than ever! AHS members receive a discount to this garden show. Held at the Timonium Fairgrounds.

Orchid Show and Sale at the Kelly Education Center (Richmond, VA)

Experience a weekend of orchids with the Virginia Orchid Society Show and Sale, Under Their Spell. Hundreds of Orchids on display and for sale, attend free lectures for beginners as well as experienced growers, people’s choice award for best orchid display, orchid vendors and more. The show is included with regular Garden admission. No cost to attend the sale and lectures. Held at the Kelly Education Center.

Horticultural Lecture Series at Wave Hill House: The Curious Plantsman (Bronx, NY)

Matt Mattus is a creative who cannot stop growing. With an inherent curiosity that challenges conventional wisdom and seeks out the obscure, Matt experiments with classic and current horticultural methods to find which has merit and which misleads. His research has also identified “secret recipes” that could improve the results of what you’re growing in your own garden. Matt will discuss seed-sown annuals, delphiniums from cuttings, demystifying South African bulbs and cyclamen, and more. His presentations are known for a combination of inspirational beauty, useful content and humor, so you might want to come with a notebook! A reception with light refreshments will follow this talk at Wave Hill House, the final lecture in the 2023 series.

Class at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden: Plan Your Vegetable Garden (Brooklyn, NY)

This course explores how best to plan your vegetable garden, including crop selection, planting schedules, and succession planting. In the greenhouse, we practice starting seeds appropriate for early spring; participants take home seeds ideal for spring planting. Held at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

10th Annual Santa Barbara Botanic Garden Conservation Symposium (Santa Barbara, CA)

At their annual Conservation Symposium, they bring conservation heroes and engaging experts together with students, land managers, conservation practitioners, and educators. They examine issues from various angles and then follow with a panel discussion to illuminate how everyone can all contribute and what we can do even better moving forward. Their participants leave with the knowledge and energy to further the mission of conserving native plants and habitats for the health and well-being of people and our planet.

Workshop at The Ruth Bancroft Garden: Garden iPhoneography (Walnut Creek, CA)

Take your iPhone (or Android) to the next level and elevate your smartphone skills by exploring the powerful photography abilities in the Garden. Led by John Ricca and Don Mohr, you’ll learn about shooting techniques and strategies to capture the perfect shot. This will be a special after-hours opportunity to take photos in the Garden with the magical ‘golden lighting.’ Held at The Ruth Bancroft Garden.
