Idaho Botanical Garden – Bug Day (Boise, ID)

Join us on Saturday, September 16, 2023, from 10a – 4p (last entry at 3p) at the Idaho Botanical Garden for a day full of bug-themed activities from local organizations, live music, a VW Bug car show, and a large Mantis puppet roaming the Garden. Our 22nd annual Bug Day offers a variety of bug-themed booths and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) activities, interactive exhibits, and hands-on learning available for learners of any age. There will also be live music from 12-2p, food trucks, and The VW Bug car show – a unique display that combines classic cars with bug-themed excitement – and you can vote for your favorite creation!

Arboretum Foundation – Fall Plant Sale (Seattle, WA)

This year, our fall plant sale will return as a single-day event! The Pat Calvert Greenhouse will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. while volunteers from the Cloney-Harris Plant Nursery will be on site from 10 a.m. to noon. The plant sale will coincide with the grand public opening of John Grade’s large-scale sculpture, Union, in the Arboretum. More details coming soon!

Bellevue Botanical Garden – Great Tree Lecture (Bellevue, WA)

Taught by Laura Watson in partnership with the Master Gardeners of King County. Using great photos and a friendly speaking style, Laura will describe her personal experiences living with ten great understory trees for the Pacific Northwest, all but one of which are listed on Great Plant Picks and included in The Tree Book by Michael Dirr and Keith Warren. Attendees will receive an informative list of great trees to try that includes cultural information. $10.50 BBGS & King County Master Gardener Members/$15 Non-Member.

Oregon Garden – Digging in the Dirt (Silverton, OR)

Each year, The Oregon Garden’s horticulture staff grows tens of thousands of annuals to be enjoyed by our visitors! Hoyt Arboretum – Fall Mushroom Discovery (Portland, OR)

Discover the fascinating and fun world of mushrooms! The program will start with an indoor introduction to the ecological roles of fungi, their forms, how they eat, reproduce and the basics of identification. The talk will be followed by a casual walk outdoors on the Arboretum trails to carefully observe and explore the species commonly found at Hoyt and in the Pacific Northwest during the fall season! See mushrooms in their natural habitat and start practicing those new fall mushroom ID skills!
